2025 RECIPIENT OF THE CHUCK NEWMAN COUNCIL CHAMPION AWARD
I’m incredibly honored to post that I’ve been selected as the 2025 recipient of the Chuck Newman Council Champion Award.
This was so unexpected and is a humbling recognition that means more than words can express.
Chuck Newman was my colleague, mentor and most of all my friend. I miss him dearly. The mediation community lost Chuck a couple of years ago and there is still a hole where he once was.
This award is given to those who demonstrate a commitment to mediation, community-building, and advocacy within NYSCDM Council leadership. To be chosen is not only a personal honor — it’s a testament to the work that I love to do and validates this as my passion and calling.
For me, this award is personal.
Chuck Newman’s legacy is rooted in thoughtful dialogue and a relentless belief in the power of individuals to make meaningful change within their communities. I worked on the Board of the Council with Chuck. He listened, spoke with purpose, and brought people together across differences with his intellect and thoughtfulness.
This award is a reminder of why I do this work. Through mediation, creating space for honest conversation, practical problem-solving, and respectful collaboration for couples/families going through one of the most difficult times of their lives.
To be recognized for that effort is incredibly meaningful — especially in a time when divisiveness often overshadows so much.
I want to thank the Board, the Council, my colleagues, and my clients who allow me into their lives every day.
This award is so affirming for me.
So, here’s to the process of mediation and the work I do. To the messy, human, powerful process of making changes in a cooperative way. And most of all, here’s to Chuck Newman — whose example lights the way for me and many others.
